A vanity isn’t just a cabinet with a sink dropped in. Sink placement, faucet spacing, and drain and supply line location all have to be worked out before the cabinet gets built, especially in a small bathroom where a few inches of clearance make the difference between a vanity that feels right and one that feels cramped.
Rugged Ridge Construction’s plumbing work is led by our master plumber, and that background shapes how we lay out vanity plumbing, particularly on double-vanity setups or floating vanities where the supply and drain lines have to be concealed cleanly behind the cabinet.
Plumbing Planned In
Once plumbing is planned, cabinet style, drawer configuration, countertop material, and hardware get chosen to match the rest of the bathroom, whether that’s the tile, the shower glass, or the overall finish palette.
We also plan for practical details like outlet placement for hair dryers and electric razors, and lighting height relative to the mirror.
Lighting and Mirror Placement
A vanity’s lighting plan matters as much as the cabinet itself, and it’s one of the most common things homeowners want to redo once they’ve lived with a stock setup. A single overhead light or an outdated bar fixture above the mirror casts shadows across the face, which is a bigger problem in a bathroom than almost anywhere else in the house. Sconces flanking the mirror at eye level, or a mirror with integrated lighting, give more even, usable light for actual daily routines like shaving or applying makeup.
Mirror size and placement get planned alongside the vanity width and the light fixture layout, not chosen separately afterward. On a double vanity, that usually means either one wide mirror spanning both sinks or two individual mirrors centered over each, and the choice affects how the lighting gets positioned. We work through these decisions as part of the vanity design so the finished wall looks planned as one composition instead of pieced together.
