Owner's Suite Oasis

This 1980s home had a small, dated primary bath and wallpaper just about everywhere. The homeowners wanted a true owner's suite: a five-piece bath, more storage, and a Scandinavian, mid-century modern look that still felt warm.

We took out the wall to the old guest bath and moved everything forward, so the new bathroom gets the big window and its wooded view. That opened up room for a freestanding tub, a terrazzo-tiled shower, a separate toilet room with extra storage, and a double walnut vanity (they used to have one sink) with wall-mounted brass faucets and a backlit mirror.

The bigger bath took some closet space, so we built it back into the bedroom. A wall of green cabinetry wraps a walnut-paneled headboard with reading lights for each side, LED backlighting, and a pull-out shelf for phones at night. The old one-sided fireplace now opens into the suite too, and 5-inch wide-plank maple flooring ties it all together.
