Personalized Living
Basement Finishing Built Around How You'll Use the Space
A finished basement can be a guest suite, a place to host game night, a quiet office or all three. Rugged Ridge Construction finishes and remodels basements across Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor and Greeley, and we build each one around how your family will actually use it, not a generic floor plan.
Basements are also where plumbing gets complicated: a bathroom or kitchenette needs new drain lines, and a wet bar needs drain slope back to the main line. Our master plumber is on staff, so that work happens on our schedule and under our own license, not a subcontractor’s.

Our Advantage
Plumbing for Basement Bathrooms and Wet Bars
Tailored to Your Life
In-House Plumbing
Seamless Finish
A basement bathroom or wet bar has to drain back to the main line, and sometimes gravity alone won’t get it there. When that happens, a small ejector pump does the work. Our master plumber plans that in from day one, and with our plumbing in-house that step stays on our timeline instead of waiting on an outside plumber.
Floors, Moisture and the Slab Underneath
A basement floor sits on concrete, and moisture can wick up through a slab over time. That’s why waterproof and moisture-resistant flooring is the safer choice down there, and why the prep underneath, including crack isolation membrane and moisture barriers, matters so much: a floor is only as good as what’s underneath it.
Older Northern Colorado homes, especially ones with a basement slab that has settled slightly over the years, often need more prep before flooring goes in. We treat subfloor prep as its own phase of the project, inspected and corrected before any flooring gets ordered, so the finished floor holds up under daily use. Our basement flooring options page covers the materials in more detail.
Egress Windows and Permits
Every finished basement needs an emergency escape and rescue opening, and each basement bedroom needs one of its own. We size those openings during design rather than after framing, and construction planning and permitting is a built-in step of every project we take on.
Rooms That Work for Years
A home theater needs its wiring roughed in before drywall, and a flex room needs outlets, flooring and storage that can handle a playroom today and a home gym later. Planning it in up front means no cutting into finished walls later, and no second remodel when the room’s job changes.
What Homeowners Say
“Brad was very professional and did an amazing job putting a shower in my basement replacing a tub/shower combination… Brad made sure that everything was cleaned up when he left every night…” (Connie Cohen, Google review)
“They communicated with us every step of the way, and the end product was exactly what we wanted.” (Deanna Roberts, Google review)
Basement Finishing FAQs
How much does it cost to finish a basement in Fort Collins?
Every basement is a different job, so there’s no canned package price. We walk your basement during a free 3D Session and give you a written investment range before we leave.
Do I need a permit to finish a basement in Fort Collins?
Yes. The City of Fort Collins lists a full or partial finish of a residential basement as a fast-track permit, and asks for an engineer’s evaluation letter for any structural work, including new or larger basement windows. We handle permitting as part of your project.
Should I test for radon before finishing my basement?
Yes. Over half of Colorado homes have elevated radon, and Larimer County Health recommends that everyone test, and test again when you start using the basement more as a bedroom, office or family room.
Can a basement guest suite work as a rental?
It can. A guest room, an in-law suite and a rental unit all get planned differently, so we start by asking who the space is really for. We handle the permitting groundwork as part of the project.
What flooring holds up best in a basement?
Waterproof flooring, rather than traditional hardwood or standard laminate, is the safer choice for basements given the moisture risk from the slab below.
Can you add built-ins without finishing the whole basement?
Yes. A lot of our cabinetry work is a standalone project, like a basement media built-in, without touching the rest of the room.
